Fuji S3 Pro - Any Advice Appreciated.

My friend likes his Fuji's and currently has a Fuji 9500 which he would like
to replace.

Main use would be landscape and portrait so high fps is not an issue.

Any valid reasons for not purchasing this camera & should he make a
purchase, what would be a good walkabout lens?

Does he want to shoot in RAW?

Fuji RAW software is not very popular and is expensive, although there is S7RAW which is freeware.

Otherwise, its down to whatever postprocessing software he is using but he may need to update

As it takes Nikon F mount lenses it won't be difficult to find one new or s/h to suit his budget

The S3 seems to have a following (over the S5) at the DPReview forum, though there's lots of X100 noise there, now. Due to lack of speed, he'd probably want to rely on JPEGs, and benefit from those Fujifilm colours.

I use a Tamron 24-135mm walkabout. They can still be found, but many look well-used. A faster combination would be the Tamron 17-50mm and Sigma 50-150mm or a 70-200ish. The longer, heavier zoom could be left at home when not required. If that option's too expensive, then an old Nikkor 28-105mm or a 50-135mm plus a short prime or the 17-50mm would be OK, though with modest apertures at the portrait end. If an ultrawide is required, the Sigma 10-20mm and Tokina 11-16mm are popular, and could be paired with an 85mm or 50mm prime or the Micro 60mm, which is ƒ/2.8 at portrait distance.

Many thanks for the advice peeps. He will most certainly shoot jpeg as he isnt really into pp at the mo. Great advice on lenses too as neither of us have any Nikon experience. Thanks again.
