Currently got the 55-200 but also getting the 50-140. Wondering if it's worth getting a teleconverter for the 50-140, if so, any great differences in quality between the 1.4 and 2 x ? Was mainly interested in the 2 x for the extra reach.

Any advice/experience much appreciated
 
If getting a t/c then go for the 1.4, the 2.0 is unnecessary.
 
It's just tough as got a hide shoot next week and could really do with longer reach than the 55-200 gives me but can't afford a 100-400 and prefer not to rent
 
Personally I’d go with the 2x on the 50-140. I tried both and didn’t see much in the way of a difference IQ wise so the extra reach was what I went for. Worked well for me on safari.
 
The 1.4x is great (behind the 100-400) and is well worth using. The 2x is less so - I've sold the 2x and now crop into 1.4x images for extra apparent reach if I want/need it.
 
But he’s got a 50-140... Adding a 1.4x won’t give any extra reach over the 55-200 he already has. Hence recommending the 2x. IQ is absolutely fine on the 50-140 but I agree it’s not something I’d recommend for the 100-400.
