Hi guys,

Just a quick question. Are any of you using this cctv lens on their NEX or m43 system? Or perhaps the SLR magic lens?

I noticed the Fujian is very similar to the SLR magic, if not identical in design. Fujian has also got a 25mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.4 on ebay too.

If any of you own or have experience with these lenses, how are you finding them on your systems? Do you regret buying it, and how well does it work with the NEX focus peaking. Thanks in advance! :-)
 
The 35/1.7 is sharp in the centre from wide open. But the edges are horrible on a Nex, massively blurred! It's a fantastic lens if you like that effect, but unusable for normal shots unless you dramatically crop your images. The 25mm vignettes heavily on a Nex I believe.
 
Can the blurred corners be passed off as bokeh in portraits or is this a different kind of blur?

I checked on flickr for some sample images and the bokeh seems nice and creamy, more so than the bokeh on my d5100 with 50 at 1.8 wide open. Or is it the blurred edges contributing to the effect?

The 25 seems to give a swirled bokeh effect in the sample images I saw on flickr.
 
No, it's more like field curvature. Shoot a building and only the centre will be sharp. Fine forthose who like to just isolate a subject in the middle of the frame (one person, flower wtc.) but unusable for other applications unless you shrink the image to web size (imo). This is probably less pronounced on a micro 4/3rds camera due to the 2x crop.
 
I have the 25mm 1.4, it's a toy lens and I bought it for those days when I wanted to feel retro with the whole instagram mentality of worse image quality looks better. The corners are terrible, there are random areas of blurring on the lens, it's a nightmare to focus (it's a screw in mount, so the lens usually comes out the mount when pulling the focus ring), and in the dimmest of light, you will get lens flare.

The pros ; It's small, it's £15/20, it's actually really sharp in the middle when stepped up, you'll get interesting results.

I found it great for videos on the Nex, as the video crops you lose the heavy vignetting. Great for isolating a subject.

Edit ; I'm not at home, so I can't upload any pictures and the only picture i've got online taken with the lens is a video turned into a .gif

You can see the amount curvature, blur and vignetting. And that's cropped aswell!

I use a 25mm 1.4 cctv lens on my GF1 for stills and video and really like the effect it gives. I tend to stop it down to 1.8/2.0 to remove the ca but still use it more than any of my other lenses (14-45, 14, 20 and OM 50/1.4).

You can even shoot macro with a Raynox Dcr-250 :0)

I've also been using it on the GF1 alongside my Canon kit at the last couple of weddings I've shot for its unique video style. I'd definitely recommend one!

The gif looks quite dark Chris, was this straight out of camera or did you do any editing to it? I shoot mostly people, and single subject still life. Not a big fan of wide angle/landscapes. What do you mean about the lens mount moving when you pull focus? Does it protrude further into the body at certain focal lengths? If that is correct then it does worry me a little, as the NEX sensor is quite exposed and has a pretty short distance from rear of the lens to the sensor. Has it caused any problems for you in use?

Thanks for the links Steve, those are some really encouraging images. I think for the price, my initial expectations wasn't that high. As they say, you get what you pay for. But the more I view the images, the more impressed I am that people are actually making these images with this thing.

For me, the images from the 35 seem to suffer less from the curvature blur. Is this because it is a wider angle lens? If so, then in theory, will the Fujian 50mm have even less curvature blur than the 35? Or am I wrong to think that? Is the extreme vignetting due to the size of the lens mount diameter and how it falls on the APS-C sensor?
