Another one of these today at 5pm.
I know not everyone was into this last time around, but some where.
So just letting people know again about a full moon rise at 5pm, might be slightly different time where you are though.
Hopefully the sky is clear this evening, not like the last time.

I saw it, mighty impressive since it came up huge and quite a bright red. Unfortunately I was standing on the steps of my local boozer at the time so no kit with me.

saw it here ...but unfortunatly there was a big hill in the way so by the time i saw it it was well up ......still looked impressive tho :)

Only a tad smaller.BUT does it rise over the horizon OR just above it.The reason I ask is the sun will have set by about half an hour?

Sun sets at 5:02pm where I am in livingston, Scotland. Not sure what the difference is where you are.
It will rise on the horizon. Looks quite impressive if you can get near the east coast or at least a good view of a low horizon.

I can get out looking over the sea.I just thought that the sun still had to be up for it to illuminate the Moon as it rises.I will have a look out if it is clear.

The sun will have set an hour and 20 mins before the moon rises over the horizon where you are.? Does the light bend round the earth or something?

Same for me here. Well 1hr 24 minutes actually. What are you getting at?

:bang:
The moon is approx 30 earth diameters away, the only time it isn't in sunlight is when its in the earth shadow, (lunar eclipse) and that only lasts hours.

If the sun has dropped below the West horizon by 80mins (well down) how does it illuminate the Moon rising at the Eastern horizon.I can understand if there is not much of a time difference between the setting Sun and rising moon.

That might be the case. But one has to be able to see IT!:bang:

Well I guess it probably has something to do with the size and intensity of the sun, the distances involved, the different orbits, diffraction etc.

Ive been lookin for the chance to get the tripod out for some moon shots as i've never done it before, and according to my sky safari app (seems amazing info for stargazers) the moon rises at 7.48 pm
This app really looks the part, with incredible ammount of information, so it'll be interesting to see how accurate it is, or not
Now i just need to worry about being bitten by the sky bug to add to my landscapes, wildlife, architecture and street toggery fixations
When its all new, its all good....Just cant find enough time to get it all in :-)
