Edit My Images
Yes
Hi guys

I really need some help.

I have a Transcend (yes second time I've found this is a HUGE mistake) 8gb CF card. Have used it several times without any problems. Today I go to put my images onto the computer the usual way via CF connection. Most have come up corrupted...even though I could view them fine on camera. They won't transfer fine via that, nor via my other PC and now I can't view them by the back of the camera. Just comes up with an error. Now most of the images are corrupt and I know I sound big headed by I got some of my best butterfly images today and now they're all gone. I have no idea how to get them back to normal. I don't have a serial code to be able to download the Transcend photo recovery tool because I threw away the package after having so many successful uses of the card.

What to do. On the verge of being a great big sissy and crying my eyes out.
:bang::(

Help please. :help:

Thank you in advance

Sarah

Bummer :( Try as many recovery tools as you can. I've found some to be more effective than others, so don't give up hope. BTW, I've used Transcend cards for a couple of years now with no probs, I presume their cards are just re-badged something elses, but I guess quality depends on what was re-badged.

have you tried a card reader? Or if so can you connect your camera and transferto PC that way
Recuva has always worked for me. Sorry much help!

I should have a Sandisk disc somehere, could look it up and post it to you. Might be worth a try?

Thankyou..:) I will take you up on that offer if nothing else works....the problem is that the images are *there* but they're all corrupt - well nearly all. Don't understand it, they were fine earlier on the camera.

Not sure about the recovery but the cause possibly a bent pin? Have a look down the reader to see if any are out of line. I had this once and it then corrupted the card so now I always blow out any dust and check if any pins are bent before putting a card in.

Sorry I can't help any more than the others with recovery software - but is this the second time the same card has failed you?

No I've tried it on my PC, my dads PC, and via transferring from my camera. ITs the second transcend I've had where pictures are corrupt. Never ever had a problem with Sandisk.

Sarah, if you want to email one of the corrupt files, I will run it through sandisks recovery. At least we will know if its worth getting the disc. I'll pm you my email.

Kev.

Buy another transcend card, get the recovery software number and return your damaged one for a refund
Nothing dodgy as you do have a knackered card and at least end up with some pics and a sorted card (hopefully)

You could contact Transcend about it who may recover the data for you. I did a google search and found someone who had written a Java App to extract each image to a file. PMing you with details

Good luck

This is a long shot so don't get your hopes up. At all. I've had a few corrupted RAW files magically heal after converting to DNGs. By corrupted - they had big chunks - like a quarter or half - that had become just lines of colour. After conversion the resulting DNGs were perfect. It didn't work on all, so as I said, don't get your hopes up. I used the standalone Adobe DNG converter.

Mac or PC?

Sometimes there is variation in performance of recovery on one vs the other.

Had a big problem on a Transcend SD 2GB card once... I use only Lexar, or Sandisk now.

Good luck.

Well I first downloaded them onto the PC. I'm gonna give it a go on my mac...only reason I haven't yet is because of not having a card reader.

Thank you for the heads up but tried it and wasn't successful.

Ok so the card is being really temperamental. Some of the thumbnails are now showing ok, but the image itself is now just black. AAAAARRRGGGGGGHHHHH

Thank you for all the help and advice, and offers for help. But I've run it through lots of different image recoveries and now the files are just black now. I'm giving up. :(

Thanks again.

Thinking you should move to sandisk- I know its not much help, but it will hopefully not happen again :)

I tend to agree with the above.

No recovery tool or software can 100% gaurantee to restore corupt files unfortunately and its more luck than anything. Really sorry you lost your pics though best just to forget about it and go find some more butterflies :).

@ Sharon, out of interest where did you buy your card from? A reputable dealer or ebay?

I bought it from Amazon who's preferred merchant was IndigoStarFish...whom I have also had Sandisks from also.

Same thing happened to me. I used OnTrack data recovery. I formatted the card in camera and used the format recovery tool. The files were recovered and saved as tiffs.

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago and tried a load of free recovery programs. I eventually had success with PC tool file recover and recovered everything.
You might want to try looking on a certain torrent site for file recovery software ! ;)

This may help i have had issues witha few cards if you have'nt formated the card
Delete the corrupt images from your PC
and redownload them you may have to use the select photos part of program
but fingers crossed they will come up alright the second time
this has happened a few times with different cards to me scandisk included
Regards
Richard
