Noticed this at the side of the road today.

That is called Shaggy Mane or Inky Cap Mushroom
Latin:Coprinus comatus.

They can I believe be eaten when young, before they start to melt into the black mass, but take expert advise on that.

Cheers for the info m8, i had no idea what it was. I take it the black withered thing next to it is a melted one?
