FZ150 vs NEX-C3 help

OK misleading title.

I have never been into photography and I am going to try and be brief.

A month ago I bought the FZ150 as an all round camera and to take pictures of my 6 month old son. I went on the reviews online and my very tight budget.

Since receiving the camera I've taken over 2000 photos and learnt that I want to start taking better photos. I have never used the iAuto and mostly use manual setting. Unfortunately the low light performance is terrible, especially so when chasing a baby unless I use flash.

The bug seems to have well and truely bitten and I have just bought an NEX-C3 and Sigma 30mm f2.8 for better low light photography and I was planning to sell the Panny to pay for it.

Now I seem to have some sort of disease where I am looking at the 50mm f1.8 and 18-200mm lenses which make the whole bundle hugely expensive.

Should I stop now and buy a different camera/lenses?

What are peoples opinions who have been through this craziness?

I want reasonably compact camera (the FZ150 seems a good size and I am shocked at how small the NEX is) My concern with a DSLR is whether my wife can take it out and about to photograph our son.
 
The Sony E Mount lenses are either vastly overpriced or they're out of stock. And to make it more confusing, the two cheapest lenses are the best performing (the Two Sigmas). Nearly £300 for a 50mm 1.8 is just madness, even if it does have OSS. For £80 you can get the Nikon or Canon lenses.

If you're wanting to buy into a company who listen to their fans and bring out lenses they want, then don't buy the Sony E Mount. Users ask for a small, fast prime in the 20-40mm range, Sony bring out the 35mm 3.5 Macro lens. Users wanted a new zoom lens, Sony bring out the same lens...in a new colour. Just go onto SonyAlphaRumors.com right now and read the 200+ comments about the newest rumoured lens.

Have a good read about the benefits of the Micro Four Thirds system and the Samsung NX system.

My opinion on the Nex system; greatest Mirrorless camera bodies with a poor selection of average lenses.

Great if you want a few lenses, awful if you're wanting to buy into a system.

I disagree on the comment above - their are some great emount lenses (the Zeiss 24mm is amazing- & yes expensive). The 30mm sigma also gets great reviews as does the 50mm 1.8 which you can get for £225 new - and considering it has image stabilization and has a quality metal body.. it's not really expensive compared to the plastic canon & Nikon non is versions for half the price.
I have the tamron 18-200 which is very nice for a superzoom & the Zeiss which iq wise is the best lens I have owned (previous was the 24-105L).
I personally think the NEX system is worth the expense if you are wanting a high quality compact system if like me you don't want the DSLR bulk when enjoying a day out; but everyone has different requirements.

Why do you need IS on 50mm at first place, as for the metal body Canon 50mm 1.8 mk1 is metal body and it costs far less and I'm pretty sure the IQ will be better. As for the lenses they do suck I've had a Nex5 with 18-55 and 16mm and I can say the Canon kit lens is better. As for the camera itself is a great one, ergonomically(personal opinion) is worse than the Panasonic GF1 and ofcourse the GF1 has a 20mm f1.7 lens that you can buy around 200£ used and the quality is amazing :) Actually my advice would be, go for 4/3rds instead because of the choice of lenses/bodies.
 
I personally would find image stabilization useful on 75mm equivalent.

As for the canon 50mm mk1, you can't get a new price & it doesn't have is so it's hard to judge value really. As for iq I doubt there's a great deal in it between all 3.

I'm not going to participate in a fanboy slinging match; I'm just saying I personally find the NEX system ideal for me. My kit 18-55 certainly didn't 'suck', i sold it for the tamron as that is more versatile for ME as a fun walkaround outdoor lens.
 
I'm speaking from the stand that I've had both, but as mention it's personal opinion just the Gf1 felt better and the flash is built in
 
Thanks for the replies. I wanted to avoid the 4/3's because of the low light performance. Are the Canon rebels and Pentax k r a similar size to the fz in real life use?

My original aim, buying the c3 and lenses and changing the body when I can better afford or when they come down in price
 
the cheapest way is a entry level DSLR (canon ) and the 50mm prime f1.8
if you go nikon you'll have to buy the £200+ version to make it autofocus.
then you can always get better lenses which are available 2nd hand
and portraits with an off shoe remote flash? no problem.

The more compact way is I think the olympus Pen or Lumix interchangable lens systems.

How about a Sony a37? small body and quite a wide range of lenses. it comes with a quite decent kit lens and old minolta glass is dead cheap on ebay
 
As mentioned by quite a few people already if you're planning to build a system go for the choice that has more lenses available on the market - Nikon or Canon, if you want a good starter DSLR and you're not planning to expand for now go for the Sony as it's cheap and it has built in stabilization, if you just need a better camera go for either 4/3 or Nex (I prefer the 4/3) :)

P.S. a panasonic body + 20mm 1.7 will be a quite nice combination to take photos of your son :)
