OK....so. I currently shoot weddings. Nothing else really. I have two D750's, a Panasonic G6 and a D600. The D600 & G6 will be sold.

I've also saved up enough really to be able to buy the D4s. But now I have the D750's I really wonder if I really NEED one. Well...scratch that. I don't NEED it....I just want one. But that's a bloody expensive 'want'.

On the other hand, it would be nice to have a smaller camera for family outings. The G6 is OK but I only have the kit lens and I don't like the IQ from it. I could get the GH4 with the 12-35mm and get 4K video recording and a pro grade lens with it.

Or.....I could say screw it and get the Sony A7s but then I've got the same issues with lenses unless I spend a fortune on more lenses. Plus I don't think the A7s with a decent lens is that much smaller than a DSLR. The silent shutter would come in really handy for those churches that claim the shutter slap is distracting.

So which would you get and why?
 
So you only shoot weddings and you want a D4S ... I have to wonder why.
Looks to me that you have all you need but if not how about a D810, greater resolution and quieter shutter :)
 
I don't think there's enough of a difference between the D750 & D810 to justify the difference. But the D4s is tempting me with it's current price of around £3k for import.

And yes twist.....this is a belly full of GAS!
 
If it helps I wanted a 1Dx I had a mark iv and a 5 d mkiii guess what I bought the 1 Dx
And I love it ;) sometimes you have to feed the need.

Yeah....think that about sums it up. Especially since the wife has also given me her blessing
 
Hi I was talking about this GAS urge that manufacturers and magazines rely on, depend on and actively feed with the constant focus on more, more, more. And then there are those who switch entire, comprehensive systems and cost themselves thousands... Modern cameras are amazing. Canon is great. Nikon is great. (And others before it starts a who is best argument). Andy Rouse was a Canon guy, then a Nikon guy...don't know what he uses now. What it does show is that it doesn't really matter... So, as long as it ain't broke, why fix it? The shutter noise sounds like an actual need... The rest is GAS. Maybe go on a holiday instead!
 
I had the D4 (not the s) as it was an itch I wanted to scratch, and got a last stock new version (the "S" had just come out), for a real good price. As expected, it was a brick and an absolute delight to use, but after 6 months or so, the novelty wore off, and I started to notice a few issues with the D4. Firstly the stupid mixed card slots. Yes XDS is bloody quick, but how many cameras out there are supporting it ? I really wouldn't be surprised if on the D5 Nikon went back to twin CF cards. Secondly, the battery life was seriously worse than my older D3s (not surprising really as the D3s battery was considerably beefier), and I never really got more than about 20% more shots than with with D800 or D7100 I had at the time). Lastly, the 16mp images whilst gorgeous, didn't offer massive amounts of freedom for cropping being"only" 16mp. I also didn't like the implementation of the horizontal horizon in the viewfinder using the AF focus brackets rather than a scale at the side and bottom like for instance the D800. Also, let's not forget that the D4 is a brick, and with a 24-70 F2.8 or 70-200 F2.8 hanging off it, you will certainly build up some neck and shoulder muscles.

I sold the D4 and with the proceeds bought a D750, and to be honest, aside from the obvious - build, frame rate, built in grip etc., I don't miss the D4 at all, and the images coming off the D750 are as good as if not better than the D4, and noise levels seem no worse despite the increase in resolution (and down sampled to 16mp looks better). If at the end of the day it's all about image quality (and you using them for weddings I guess it is), then as far as I see it the D4 offers you nothing that the D750 can't give you in a lighter, smaller, higher resolution package (unless you shoot weddings at 10FPS) ?

I suffer badly from GAS too. I just can't stop. I start reading reviews and checking out prices. The itch to buy gets worse and worse the more I read. But I've discovered that I don't have to buy something expensive like a new lens or camera body. I can switch attention and research and buy a cheap accessory and get plenty of fun playing with it and testing it. It's not intially as attractive as a the expensive new lens or body, but once I've got my hands on it and started playing with it the GAS goes away. And I've still got money in the bank :-)
 
What about something in-between the D4s / A7s and GH4. Fuji XT1 springs to mind and for the price of a D4s you could get some very nice glass for the system.

I think you really need to decide what you want from the camera. Something else to go with your business side or something lighter and smaller for family days out.

I know what you mean about the noise of the shutter on the D750!

Personally, I am saving for something with a silent shutter (electronic) but keep stumbling on the speed of focus as well as ability to focus in low light (f2 - iso12800 - 1/125). Until there is something I'll use the Fuji X-E2 / 35 1.4 as a 'quieter' alternative.
 
Fuji X-T1/10 and 18-135? Plenty of IQ, reduced bulk and mass, pretty versatile.
