Have an old Minolta XD7 with 50mm 1.4 lens. Internet searches reveal an adapter for GF1. Anyone with experience or knowledge on whether this works. Realise auto functions on GF1 cannot be used but would like to know whether I can select aperture as the lens uses a spring to close the iris to the selected aperture when used in the Minolta. Would appreciate advice before purchase of the adapter.

Yep, they exist, but are usually listed as MD adapters. I used to have one, but sold it. Now I have a Rokkor 45mm I need it again!
The Minolta aperture stops down with the ring, the lever on the back keeps it open when mounted on the appropriate Minolta body, the opposite of Olympus OM lenses which are open until the body stops them down. (m4/3 adapters have a tab inside that permanently closes the lesn down so it works on the aperture ring). So basically as you adjust the aperture it will be closing down, so expect the screen to start struggling for light and going grainy, but you will have instant DOF preview.
