Gitzo and Manfrotto interchangability question - does anyone use both systems????

Hi,

I have used Manfrotto for years and have a few different heads that use the rectangular QR plate seen here

The question that I would like help with is -

Does anyone know for certain if Manfrotto QR plate fits in the Gitzo head GH1780QR seen here

They look very similar, but I need to know for sure before commiting to buy,

To be honest I doubt they will be compatible. The Gitzo will use the Arca Swiss standard.

Are you sure? It doesn't look very much like an Arca Swiss plate in the linked photo.

Actually, maybe it's not. I thought it was just a short Arca plate, but it says its compatible with; http://www.gitzo.com/cms/site/gitzo/accessories/adapters?code=GS5160CDT which suggests its not.

Gitzo QR plates are a pain in the proverbial. I have three Gitzo heads and none of the QR plates are interchangeable despite all the heads being the "same generation" or era.
(They're not arca-swiss type)
