Good SD Memory

I wouldn't buy a single big card - buy, say, 2 or 4gb cards instead.
That way if you lose your camera/card to theft/failure you don't lose all your hard work too.

I always use Sandisk.
 
Transcend are seen as a good brand.

I think the class of the card relates to the speed, so if your doing high burst shooting, it will be better to have a faster card, for normal shooting, a slower card would be fine...

Thanks - I am looking to get a minimum 32GB of memory as I will be away for 5 weeks.

Thanks. Is class 10 a good speed? I normally do burst shooting in jpeg, but I will probably be taking some RAW shots when shooting dolphins.
 
Someone else will be able to comment on speeds, im on that much of an expert! ;)

I agree with buying either 4gb or 8gb cards though as opposed to one large capacity card :)
 
If you think you need a minimum of 32Gb for 5 weeks, then double that and you'll be nearer the mark. On a 4 week trip, using a 13mp 5D and shooting raw+jpg I came back with 120Gb. Averaging 4Gb a day. Some days I filled 2x4Gb cards. So either stock up on cards, take a backup device, or find yourself being restricted and deleting.
 
I've seen more transcend cards fail than any other brand, client's ones, and one of ours. They come bundled with cameras. Check out feedback on Amazon. Lexar and Sandisk have never failed for me.

I've never had any issues, or anybody else I know, must have been unlucky. Plus reviews on Amazon are great.

Here's a quick test I done using Crystal Disk Mark 3 (64bit)

I ran the 100mb test for the following three cards. I know it's not ideal as the PNY is only 8gb whereas the other two are 16gb. However, all three test different class ranges.

I'll let you see the results for yourselves.

Presumably sequential write speed is the important one? Or is 512K important too?
 
Thanks. I think I am going to take a punt on 2 16GB class 10 Transcend cards. I already have a class 2 8GB card, so I think I should have more than enough storage!!
 
I have moved from Sandisk to Transcend as the quality is the same yet you get more for your money with Transcend, check the USA photo forums and you'll find Transcend is use a by a huge number of photographers.

As for size get the bigger ones, when I got my 30D I listened to all the safer than sorry remarks and 2 * 1 GB cards, now I move up to a 1D they are more or less useless as the only hold 40 RAW shot.
 
Personally, I would go with several 4GB cards, plus take atleast 2 more than I thought I would need. Is there any chance that you would be able to buy new ones whilst on your trip? They will most likely be quite a lot more expensive, and a worse make, but supermarkets etc usually sell some if you get desperate whilst your out there. Where abouts are you going for your trip?
