Yes
Hi. Does anyone have experience of using a Gorillapod with a 7D+grip+15-85 EFS lens - or equivalent type of other kit. Does it support the weight?

Many thanks for you help.

I have the biggest model (SLR Zoom) and it will physically hold a 60D + 70-200f4L without collapsing or falling over. But I only use it as a standalone tripod in emergencies when travelling very light.

Where the Gorillapod scores for me is the ability to wrap the legs round railings, branches etc. You really do need a ballhead on it though. Their SLR ballhead performs really well for its size.

Yes, it does. But saying that, I was a little nervous.

7d with Tamron 17-50.

I was using a Manfrotto ballhead with it.

I have a SLR Zoom with the ballhead X and it copes with a 7D & 70-200 f/2.8IS using the lens mount. It can get a little bouncy so I use a remote shutter release but does the job when I want to travel light :)

I have a cheap (in price) chinese copy of the SLR zoom, and it CAN be flimsy or unbalanced, but that's pretty much only down to how you set it up, there's a lot more control over the positioning than a regular tripod, and positions where the weight isn't distributed well are easily obtainable, whereas they'd be impossible on a normal tripod (this is both a blessing and a curse).

The solution is to make sure that you spend a while experimenting with it, and carefully feeling out where the centre of balance is, and how it interacts with positioning the legs. Practice until you have a good feel for it, and it'll work fine for you when you need it to.

Used one with a 7D & 10-22. Held the weight fine but it did get moved about by the wind a bit, I was nearly 900 feet up though :)

I've used one of these Trek-Tech-T-Pod with my D700 + MB-D10 & a 70-200mm VRII with no probs - but it depends if you want a tripod that wraps around things or not.. An that earth magnet does hold as well....

Thanks everyone for answering my question. I already have a Giottos ball head and remote release so looks like a yes!. Thanks again.
