Goth Gates

Testing out my new 5D and 24-105mm L yesterday and I kind of liked this shot of some spooky old gates. Quite Goth-y I thought. The foliage isn't really that Autumnal, it just fitted the Goth vibe to have the leaves all withered and dying so I changed them from vibrant green in CS3. Pity there's no gloomy, cloud-laden sky... maybe shop one in or would that be over-doing it?

A few things don't seem right in this one. The picture looks rotated a bit, The post top decoration being cropped off looks wrong and the strong leading lines created by the wall on the left take your eye away from the gate. Worth going back to try a different composition?

Here is a lower-down version but I don't like it as much. They were just quick point-and-shoot photos as I was walking about.

You're right. The second one is too bright.

I like the first pretty much as it is, though I accept reservations about the composition. It is still an effective image.

Drove round the M25 this evening, and there are some fabulous autumn colours emerging. Go back next week and you won't have to fake these colours. I think we are in for a good one.
