Guadua (in Spanish) is a native bamboo in Colombia that is used extensively in small to midsized building construction. It is extremely strong and long lasting if properly prepared. It must be cut at night during the period of the waning moon then dried for three weeks. When prepared correctly it won't rot and resists attack by insects. Here is a building under construction.
