I'd fessed up to not having an external flash recently yet still managed to get some ok water drop pics.
Looking around here I found a tutorial for smoke pics and there seemed nothing for it - had to have an outboard flash for the dark ground effect and side illumination of the smoke partilces.
So. Managed to hack a few by using two cameras. Set my main camera up on a tripod facing the smoke. Manual mode, fixed aperture and a 1 second exposure time. Set the drive for a two second self timed delay.
As soon as the shutter opened, manually fired the camera at left to illuminate the smoke.
I thought it was a long shot... but... it worked.
So, enough being cheap. I'm going to have to get a flash and some triggers.
