Does anyone have any experiences of the the Hahnel Giga T Pro wireless remote? Doesn't really matter what brand body you're using it on as I imagine there aren't any differences. Specifically interested if the range lives up to 100m, the build quality, and whether it can be used off the hot shoe (it looks attached to the 10 pin socket in the pictures) should I require the hot shoe for a flash. Also interested to know how it compares the the official Nikon wireless remote.

Thanks for any comments.

Jamie.

Have a look at the Yongnuo RF-602 linky that covers 100m for just over £20. Also usable as a flash trigger and it's better to buy at least two so you can use one as a remote and the other to fire the flash. Very well made.

Hi Jamie,

I've got THIS one which I think is similar. Does what it says on the tin and I've been really pleased with it.Never tested the 100m range but used it at around 20m through glass and it never failed! You dont have to mount it on the hot-shoe it can just hang down!
Hope this helps.

I've got one! It's my first wireless remote so I don't have anything to compare it to but it's done me proud and I'd certainly recommend it.

First of all, it's not powered via the hotshoe, it's just a convenient place to put it so you should be fine to use it and a flash too - although I've not done that yet.
Come to think of it, I've not really tested the range .... hang on .............. (goes outside).

Ok so I got to around 65-70m which isn't bad as that was through the side of the house and around some cars, not to mention leaving the camera near our 2.4ghz phone base unit! So I guess using it out in the open should give a range comparable to the one claimed.
Shame I've loaned my flash to a mate or I'd have tested that out for you too.

Hope all that helps.

Thanks for taking the time madhouse, it's most helpful. My finger is now hovering over the buy button but it's still a lot of money to drop on a trigger. Hmmm...

No probs, am happy to help.

I went through the exact same thought process as it isn't cheap, but as it turns out I use it quite a bit (how did i ever cope without a wireless trigger before!).

One more question...this item is listed as being designed for use with DSLR's but would it be able to trigger the shutter of my F5 too?

I guess that would depend on the cable between the reciever unit and camera - might be worth an email to Hahnel.

I emailed them last night as well as making this post and am told that it is compatible with the Nikon F5. Hopefully updating this may be of use to someone should they stumble across it in future.
