As some of you may of read in the sales forum I have been trying to trade my Canon gear for medium format set up.

Today I had a long drive to Norwich and met a wonderful professional man and we traded ... I used to own

Canon 1Ds3
Canon 17-35 f2.8L
Canon 28-70 f2.8L
Canon 70-200 f2.8L mkII
Canon 85 f1.2L mkI

Traded for

Pentax 645D
Pentax DFA645 55mm f2.8
Pentax FA645 120mm f4 Macro
Pentax FA645 80-160mm f4.5
Arsat 30mm f3.5 fisheye for 645
Carl Zeiss 180mm f2.8 for 645

A very very nervous experience. it has taken me ages to acquire the gear I had and to just let it all go in one move was a very scary thing to do. Just got home with the new kit, batteries charging and tomorrow I will try to get some shots posted.... I feel drained, I hope it was a good move.

Just wanted to share with people who may understand.

All the best and am looking forward to seeing the results, it is a huge change. Only used a medium format in a class room but like everything else with new kit give yourself time to get used to it and don't have any knee jerk reactions IF you don't nail the shots first time round, it will come. Go get some sleep.

By the way I rented the 85mm 1.2 for a wedding of a friend, beautiful lens and the IQ was stunning.

Donki- I will surely miss my 85 f1.2L

Keebsuk- Arg! me too man, exciting times but scary. Will post results tomorrow if I get anything worthy.
 
I don't know about the cost of the gear but it looks like you got a very good deal?
 
Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy it... :thumbs: - I do know the one time I used a 645D I felt myself suddenly falling in love :love::love::love:and I had to quickly give it back before the sudden urge to spend £10k overwhelmed rationality... :naughty:
 
It does look like an exciting bit of kit. I shoot some MF film and the detail is fantastic, I look forward to seeing the images from the Pentax.

I agree, I think I got a fantastic deal, The guy was a true Gent. I'm just off out with the kit now to play, I feel like a naughty little boy for some strange reason.

Actually I totally agreed with what you said, I am still waiting to wake up from it.. I guess the key factor was that I had the nerve to ask the bloke if he wanted to swap it and he said "yeh I need a walk around system"

Shot with it today. absolutely mind bending... the resized shots do it no justice but I will simply resize and post a few.

These were taken with the 120mm f4 macro, except the 2nd shot it was taken using the 80-160 f4.5
 
I'd be interested in a mini review about the differences in use between this kit and full frame or even APS-C DSLR kit.
 
I will give it a mini review when I feel I know the camera a bit more but so far I am gobsmacked with the depth in colour the detail and shadow detail also the way it handles dynamic range.
 
You wouldn't wanna swap for a 1DsIII and an 85, would you? I could throw in a couple of handy sensor wipes, too.

Are you kidding? took me a year to get rid of the one I had...
