Has anyone moved from Canon to Nikon?

John, it might be worth paying Grays of Westminster a visit. They will certainly be able to let you try all the lenses you are interested in. Not sure if the've got a D800 in their hands yet but they'll have a D700 or D3 you can use. They really know their stuff and give very honest advice.

So whilst I would read the links but I wouldn't actually believe the wild assumptions you make on Canon and Nikon lenses, not with the limited experience you have with them (in the context of how many are out there). I make no statement as to the quality of Nikon's optics, I am sure they are superb, the way you come across with Canon gear you'd think they make them out of frosted glass and smeared with butter.

Yet, if it was so bad...there wouldn't be that many working press photographers uses Canon gear.

Both make excellent gear, it's horses for courses. Although Canon do have more courses (or lenses).

I haven't said Canon make bad lenses here I have simply stated the Nikon were not worse. You can disagree with that or agree all you want but have a bit of respect for the thread and don't make this a personal attack on me.

Now either you're in here for an argument or to help the OP, as your only advice is "horses for courses" I can only assume you're looking for an argument...so I'll say this and be done with it; however much I do or don't like Nikon, its not for you to judge or comment. Agree, disagree whatever but personal comments are unnecessary - and all to easy to say behind a computer...I doubt you would act so disrespectfully in person so why don't you show a bit of respect here too.

Wow, Paul, thanks mate, that link looks awesome. I'm in Kensington, so these are well within reach.

Just to make sure you know, the wrong canon 135mm is selected there on that link you're referring to. That comparison is comparing the nikkor 135 f/2.0 DC to the canon 135mm f/2.8 soft focus (which is a fair bit cheaper and something of a relic from film days), if you want the proper comparison open the menu and choose the 135L instead, which on that comparison is superior to the nikkor 135 at open apertures (but the nikkor has that unique DC bokeh control like on the 105 DC).

My D700 suffers from banding in the shadows if pushed.
