This place is collosal, and yet it looks as though almost every inch of the interior is either intricately carved or polished. IIRC it can take 25,000 people inside and double that in the courtyards surrounding the building.

About halfway down the ceiling can be seen a ridge, and this is where the roof separates to open and allow cooling air in from outside (or probably hot air up & out, cooler air in at the bottom).
