I've been in a dilemma of where to go with my gear. I couldn't decide which way to go. If i'm going to lug a dslr around then its just as well be a FF, but then the idea of getting a nex6 really appeals to be also, as i really want to start street photography. I can't afford the both so it was one or the other. Then i discovered how much used Samsung nx10 are selling for, there giving them away, going for less than £100! Yes the sensor isn't as good as the nex, but there 30mm pancake has great reviews and can be picked up for less than £100 too. In-fact I've seen nx10 + 30mm being sold for £150, can you even buy a manual compact for that price? I can have a street camera that will fit in my pocket, with a viewfinder and not have to worry if it takes some knock or i get mugged!;)

Best of all it leave enough money for a 5d2 and a 17-40!

Just ask yourself what you really need and make the consideration then! If you want an awesome full frame camera, go film!

The NEX-6 is a fantastic camera, I'd personally miss on the Samsung NX10 until it has a more diverse set of lenses.

I'd say NEX-6 and then do whatever you've got to do for a 5d2 and 17-40.. As of wednesday that's what I'll have!
 
Nx have a better range of pancake primes than the nex, better iq too. I only need the 20 and 30mm pancakes so I'll be fine.

If its a small camera consideration, then I'd throw Fuji into the suggestions.
 
If money wasnt a issue I would get something else but for 150 quid its hard to beat.
 
When I sold all my gear I decided to go for a compact camera and chose the olympus epl3. It produced great images but I just could not get on with the layout and slow access to settings after using the DSLR. I've also had the Nex5 which was a great camera but again lacked the functionality of a dslr.

Now I find myself back with a DSLR and happy as ever. As much as image quality matters, getting the image in the first place is the most important part and that's something I found (probably my lack of skill) I struggled with more on a compact camera.
 
I can only speak for the NX100 but it's roughly the same (missing the EVF), the NX10 can also be updated to an NX11 with a 'crack' update.

The NX lenses are a lot better than the NEX lenses, the autofocusing on the NX varies a lot between lenses (the 16, 20 and 30mm primes are the fastest), the NX menus are beautiful to use, the NX has about 3 times as many buttons on the camera making it easier to adjust things and the AMOLED screen is very clear.

The bad? Getting hold of the lenses, 2 years ago when I bought the NX there were 10+ eBay sellers selling lenses for an amazing price (£50 for a first hand 20mm prime, £200 for the 60mm f2.8, £80 for the 30mm). It seems Samsung have stopped them from selling at those prices and every shop has closed down. That's the reason I sold up and moved from the NX system, Samsung want £280 for the 30mm now-a-days.

The sensor on the older Samsung is shockingly poor at anything over 400 iso. I can say with truth that my tiny Sony PnS could handle noise better, even when the NX100 was in RAW. BUT anything under 400iso was fantastic, especially in RAW. It out peformed my Sony NEX 3 at lower ISOs.

The EVF on the NX10 is about 1/4 the resolution on the NEX 6, it tears, distorts and looks very grainy. It's a very basic EVF, so that's another negative for it.

I'm actually giving praise for the NX system, it's just Samsung themselves that aren't helping to expand it with advertising or even getting lenses into shops. Stick the 30mm prime on an NX body, go and take shoots and it all starts to make sense. I already miss my NX system, one pocket for the body with the 16mm on it, the 20-50mm zoom and the 30mm in another pocket and it was lighter than my current DSLR with one prime lens.

If you can live with the flaws, it's a great little camera.
 
I would go with your option of 5d2 and a 17-40 and the NX10 + 30mm.

That gives you real flexibility depending on which camera you want to take and good enough IQ even from the 'pocket' camera. You may find yourself using the NX10 for much more than just the street stuff.
 
Pocket in the loosest sence of the word like any csc, but I think it will be liberating not having to worry about exensive kit on the street. They are so cheap you could have 2 both with pancakes on so you dont have to faff changing lenses. I've read plenty of reviews and know there limitations and except them.

If you just want a street camera then the NX sounds like a real bargain. At least you can then get the 5dmkII
 
Just got myself a real bargain. I've just won a nx10 with 18-55 and 30mm pancake for £167. If I can sell on the 18-55 fo £50 I got myself I nice street camera for £120, I'm well chuffed.

You got an absolutely mad bargain. You could sell the lenses on eBay for the price you paid for the whole thing nearly.

You've read all the reviews and know what to expect, I think you'll love it. Every camera menu/layout/graphics should be designed by Samsung.

That is funny. I should have started the thread after buying one. All the bidders were tp members who have read the thread!:)
 
The best bargains on eBay are usually those with things bundled in as I guess people don't always want the other items but don't think of selling them?
I paid £100 for a Ricoh GRD that included viewfinder which I sold for £60
I paid £120 for a Ricoh GRD II that included a luxury leather case, wide angle lens and hood which I sold for total of £80.
So both cameras cost me £40!

Enjoy your NX10. I had an NX100 for a while and the IQ was great but it turned out a big large and heavy for a pocketable compact.
 
I've had my nx10 for a week or so now and i have to say i've fallen in love with it. Its just feels great in your hand. Its not perfect my an stretch but a lot better than i was lead to believe reading reviews. I#As mentioned above i only paid £167 for it with 2 lenses, one of which i just sold for £85, so i paid just £88 for a aps-c camera and 30mm prime! The 20mm is next on the list.
