Help/advice required -new body/lens ?

Ok....tying myself in knots trying to decide what to get ......read loads of reviews & comparisons & still none the wiser .


Current line up :

D90 ( Bought 2nd hand)
18-55 nikor kit kens - used lots more over last year & happy with it
18-270 Tamron with VR/IR or whatever they call it at Tamron -not used a lot as not had it long but happy with it so far
90mm Tamron macro - still learning with this one but enjoying some results
150-500 Sigma IS - love it
Filters,tripod,monopod,release cable etc etc

2nd body is a D80 which is hopefully now sold to fund something new . As I get quite paranoid I want to semi-retire the D90 to back up body...just in case I break the new one :lol:

So...do I go mad & buy a D300S

OR

do I get all sensible & buy a new D90 ) both my current bodies were 2nd hand so want to treat myself to a NEW body this time ) & spend the difference on a bit of training ? I know I don't use the D90 to anywhere near it's capability , & with the difference in cost ( D90-D300S ) invest in some new glass ?

My main interest's are motorbike racing & wildlife . For those 2 subjects I prefer a zoom though appreciate a big prime might work well but they'll be out of my pocket depth

Just started to develope a very un-healthy interest in landscapes as well .

Booked on a macro course already & doing a trip to the farne islands with a pro tog who's there primarily to give help & advice on settings etc


What I'm worried about doing is getting another D90 then 1year down the line wishing I'd gone for the D300s - - does that make sense ?

So....what to do ? Going round n round in circles & giving myself one hell of a headache :eek:

The d300s will be of no benefit to you really...it's the same sensor as the d90 with a slight enhancement on the video.

Buying a new d90 just for the sake of buying new makes no sense really....

I'dsell the d90 and the tamron macro and get yourself a d7000 or wait until te d400 is announced and see if that's in your budget...
 
In your position I'd wait too. You're trying your hand at a few different things at the minute. Why not see where it takes you before parting with any money?

You never know you might get seduced by the FF Dark Side after your pro-tog jaunt and want to sell the lot for a D700...

Cheers Phil......another body is a definate...which one is the problem ? I'd not part with the macro...love it to bits

Hi wookee....unless I win the lottery I can't see myself ever being able to justify a FF body :lol:

Had a quick read up on the D400/800 , still no release dates as far as I can tell & I strongly suspect they'll be out of my league price wise anyway . Whatever I buy I'm guessing that something else will come along thats bigger/better/more pixels ETC so not aiming for the latest bit of kit , just a sensible upgrade from the D90 that I can grow in to .
Have heard of a few focus issues with the D7000 & that it may be slightly less forgiving with anything but high quality glass....no idea if thats true ?
 
Out of your choice of D90 and D300s for motorsport and wildlife I think the D300s would be better as I think the AF system is faster but not 100% sure if this is correct.

Have you tried a D300s to see if you like it?
