Help and old fella with point and shoot choices

OK, so I many not be that old but after spending a week or so looking at point and shoots I'm frazzled.

Can you have too much choice? Maybe, maybe not.

But sometimes I think I'd like a little less :D

I've narrowed it down to

1. Fujifilm XF1 Digital

2. Pansaonic Lumix DMC-LF1

3. Leica C Dark Red

I'm sure there are more, but I'd appreciate any insights anyone has on the above and point and shoots in general.

You do know the relationship between the Panasonic and the Leica?
 
Apparently, for the extra few hundred you pay for the red dotted one you get about £25 worth of accessories not included in the Panny box... ;)

Can't speak for the Panaseica cameras but love my XF-1. With a little (4 or 5 operations), the turn on procedure can be easily completed before the camera gets to eye level. Good looking little thing too, especially the tan one (had to swap the tan case for a black one to match the upholstery in my car though!!!) Image quality straight out of the camera (JPEGs) are good enough for A3 prints.

Yes.

Drop the pretend Leica from the list and buy one of the other cameras :D
 
Looks like you would replace any of those cameras sooner rather than later if you got in the least bit serious about taking photographs.
None of them would even be on a fourth camera list for me.

Hi, I'm now looking at the Fuji X20 which I see you have :D. Are you happy with it.

Yes it is an excellent walk around camera but not exactly pocket size.
But it punches well above its weight.

I shot a squirrel that bit my finger this morning....

It is the camera I now use most. But it is not specialist camera It is just an all rounder.

I knew you'd like it....so bought one before you replied.....now the eternal wait for it to be delivered :)

My wife will be happy, she was getting a bit tut tut with me carrying my DSLR every where.

Well done, I hope it suits you. My neck has felt better every time I go out.
Though I carry it the old fashionsd cross shoulder way tucked under my arm.
 
FWIW, Terry also lists an X-10 in his bag. The XF-1 has the same guts behind a different lens and turns in results that are just as good as that camera (I had both at one time but now also have an X-20 alongside the XF-1).

It's worth a lot. There are so many a reviews on the WWW that sometimes it's a bit overwhelming, so the personal TP touch really helped me.

The FinePix F900EXR would be 'better' than their XF1 and also more comparable with the Panasonic Lumix. The Leica is a more expensive Audi styled designer version.

I would suggest either the FinePix F900EXR or the Panasonic/Lumix DMC-TZ40 as truly pocketable high-spec digital compacts which are comparable with each other.

I constantly wear my F500EXR on my trousers belt but it does have limitations which a DSLR cover.

I would forget any bridge cameras - They are neither fish nor fowl in my opinion. Canon offer the 100D which is bridge size but a full-on DSLR - I use my daughter's occasionally.

The Fuji X-series are not what I call 'compact' and therefore I don't see the point of owning one.

I had one as my first digital camera and I hated it but I believe that the latest ones are a lot better and I think that if you look and choose carefully and use them to their strengths they can be a very viable option.
 
F900 maximum aperture f/3.5, XF-1, f/1.8.

However, the choice the OP has made is an excellent one (but I would say that since I have one as well!)

If you want a red dot, buy the red dot then. Easy. I would look at the real one though, because it is more of a real red dot if that makes sense.
 
Red dot Leica's are very special cameras. The build quality and optics are second to none but it all comes at a price. However, if you have the funds available then why not!? Life isn't a rehearsal.

Which would you rather drive - A Jaguar or an Aston Martin? the Jag is a good car but the Aston has the edge and sounds glorious.

I would be very tempted by a Leica X1 but it's extremely limited for macro photography.
