Help!

Apologies if this has been posted before, but I need the information in a hurry!

I started a photography course today, and one of the rules is that we are only allowed to use manual mode.

Now whilst I can change the shutter speed and aperture, I couldn't figure out how to alter the exposure compensation. Looking at the manual, it says...

Exposure compensation is not available in M and SCENE modes....

This isn't right, surely? I'm using an Olympus e520.

Does anyone know a way round this?

Many thanks!

Janet

Exposure compensation works by altering the 'other' setting, i.e. the one you're not controlling yourself. So if you're in shutter priority, it'll alter the aperture and and if you're in aperture priority, it'll alter the shutter speed. If you're in manual mode, you're controlling both settings yourself so there's nothing for the camera to do.

:plusone:

And the 'scene' modes are generally considered basic, near-automatic modes, and as such don't offer exposure compensation (as this is a more 'advanced' feature).

Thanks for the quick answers guys!

It's all a bit clearer now.
