Hello people, not been on for a while after losing interest in photography I suppose we all go through them stages, mainly its down to my job that I don't get that much time so I eventually sold my canon 50d, I then bought a sony hx1 bridge cam just so when I needed a half decent cam then I'd have at least something when I go out, go on hol etc, its not a bad camera but lacks the quality I'm use to so I'm looking for a new camera I've thought about an lx3 a g11 but now I've seen the gf1 which is small and like an slr, just wondering what is best, I don't want to have anything big so that's why I'm choosing these type of cams if its too big I feel I won't get it out the bag enough so I'd be wasting my money, any advice would be much appreciated

I'd go for a gf1 or e-p1, flexibility of a DSLR but in a smaller body. I don't think there is much in it size wise compared to the G11.

I got my GF1 at the end of last week, suddenly I actually want to go out and take photographs again - and here was me thinking that the dealer (Dave at PhotoExpress in Ulverston) was just spinning me a line when he told me that would happen.

If you do decide to get one PE are well worth a call, they are official Panasonic dealers, but around £50 cheaper than everyone else

Rumor says that new Olympus E-P2 is on the road and may be published this week(06/11).

I also fancy taking a compact DSLR. So Micro 4/3 is really attracting me. However, the possible choice of lens is very limited to M43 cameras. I finally bought a Nikon D5000 which is also small (althought not so small like M43).

You may choose a bridge camera now, and wait until more M43 lens are introduced. There is not much difference between using M43 with one lens or two and a bridge camera now.

There maybe a small selection of micro 4/3 lens but it can use the regular 4/3 lens via an adaptor. Also through adaptors on ebay you can use Nikon, Lecia Canon lens, quite a few E-P1 users are using the 50mm on theirs, obiviously you lose auto focus.

I'm waiting to see if the E-P2 can address it's issues (slow auto focus and EVF), seems micro 4/3 has got off to a good start. There are rumors of Ricoh unveiling their system mid November and also Samsung at the end of the year, neither of these will be micro 4/3 but competing versions.

I normally shoot with a 5d MarkII and L glass but after using a GF-1 I'm in love.
The image quality and focus speed is actually almost on par with my old 400d and so much smaller and lighter but i do miss the vf though.
I usually carry my 400d and 17-55IS + sigma 30 f1.4 on my holidays but I gonna sell all that for a GF-1 14-45 and 20mm f1.7 instead, quality images and video as a bonus, SOLD!

BTW - Graham how much did you get the kit for?

The main upgrade with the EP-2 seems to be the availability of an EVF (not the rangefinder as I was told) and a new black body finish. There's a picture of the new model sporting the evf, on the Chinese language version of the Olympus site - I'd link to it but a) I've lost the link I had and b) I can't read Chinese

£660 for the black version/ 20mm lens with the 3-year warranty. Dave at Photo Express (Lakeland) is the man to speak to for one at that price
