Help me spend my Jessops voucher!

Hello, hope you've all had a great Christmas.

I am a lucky girl, and got £250 worth of Jessops vouchers in total. I'd love a 50mm lens for my EOS 500D, Jessops have one for £99, and one for £280. Do you think I'd be fine with the cheaper one, will it be a good enough lens to make a difference to my photography than my existing kit 18-55 lens?

Because I can then also afford a tripod, and lead to get my flash off camera etc. It'd be great to get all that but would not want to waste money on a substandard lens.

Many thanks.

The one at £99 is the 50mm f1.8.
It is a cracking little lens for the money.

Personally I'd go for that one and then get the best tripod I could afford.
This one looks a decent option: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/76226/show.html

That would still leave you enough to get the off camera flash cord.

Unfortunately, your £250 would go a lot further if you didn't have to spend it at Jessops.

Hiya

I think it depends on if (when) you're able to spend some more! If this is your only purchase for the awhile then personally I'd go for the £99 lens with extras.

I have the £99 lens and it's fine for what Mr Rudesing & I use it for (nothing pro). What will you be using it for? Think about the differences of using a prime over a zoom. I can't get used to a prime with my kids, always use zoom, Mr Rudesing loves the 50mm.

Have fun whatever you end up with!

The extra f-stops would be nice with a 50mm prime over the kit lens, and you can always zoom in and out by using your legs

i would get the 99-00 50mm f1.8 and gie that a go and see how you get on with it
you see loads of people buy this lens and then sell it on as they do not use it enough etc
if you do like this type of lens then sell it on and get the even better 50mm f/1.4 at a later date

the 50mm f1.8 is also good for a try out using primes, if you got the more expensive version then find out primes arent suitable for your photography that you do then you'll have lost out on cash.

the tripod mentioned above is a great buy I bought one not long ago, well worth the monies.

Think out of all the answers here you will be getting lots of nice stuff

Another vote for the 50mm f/1.8!
Great little lens, really cant be beat for the money!

I'd buy the 50mm. Is your kit lens the IS version? If not I'd change that as well.
