Edit My Images
No
Hi,

I am very sorry if this sounds daft, but i have an old nikon 501, this has a shutter speed setting of B. I am now using my digital olympus and can not work out what setting this would be now....any ideas?

My picture objective is to have a night setting with blured lights.

B stands for bulb

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_FG

Shutter speed range 1s – 1/1000s (P, A, M); M90 (1/90s); Bulb (B)

Depends which model of camera you have, the bulb mode has a limit of up to 8 minutes, but you wouldn't need anywhere near that long to capture the images you want, 1-4 sec's would be sufficient if I understand the type of shot your want.

Depends what you want to spend...... (how long a piece of string) :D

Picasa from google is free, so is GIMP, Paintshop Pro and Photo Elements are fantastic budget packages for around £50-80, lightroom at £200, Photoshop full version £600 plus lots of others in between. Did you get anything with your Digital camera?

would you know what setting this would be on a dig cam?

Sorry, I misunderstood the question. If your camera can do long exposure I would expect it to have the B setting. Many do not.

yes i got a basic editing disk, i have used photoshop elements 7 (i think) but as i borrowed the disk & it now wont load i need to sort my own out. in honest i dont think i made full effect from it, more to do with lack of know-how.

Photoshop Elements is a good place to start and won't hit your pocket too much, you could pick up the new version for around £50-60 or check eBay for the older versions, although becareful what you buy.

What camera do you have?

well i still have my old (film Nikon) but i have an olympus e520

Not used a 520 but even my 410 has bulb mode so expect yours to.
It needs to be in manual mode on the 410 and then adjust the shutter speed all the way to the end where it says "bulb".

Olympus e520 manual said:
Bulb Shooting

You can take a picture with a bulb exposure time in which the shutter stays open as long as you hold down the shutter button.

Bulb shooting can also be done using an optional remote control (RM-1). > “Bulb shooting with the remote control” (P. 60)

In M mode, set the shutter speed to [BULB].
• [buLb] is displayed in the viewfinder and [BULB] on the super control panel.

TIPS
To automatically end bulb shooting after a specified period of time:
-> You can set the maximum time for bulb shooting. > “BULB TIMER” (P. 95)

To fix the focus during manual focus shooting:
-> You can fix the focus so the focus does not change even if the focus ring is turned during
exposure. > “BULB FOCUSING” (P. 89)

Notes
• The following functions are not available during bulb shooting.
Sequential shooing/self-timer shooting/AE bracket shooting/image stabilizer/flash bracketing

Thank you all so much!
It just goes to show that you cant always be self taught.
