HELP!!! Polorizer came apart

Hi, Anyone advise please, my Polorizer filter (Hoya) came apart and there is a wire ring inside but don't no where it supposed to fit plus the filter does not seem to want to screw back together is there a knack to it?

They do sometimes come apart. The bigger slimline filters are a bit flimsy and if you squeeze them a bit the glass can pop out.

They go back together easily enough but you have to work out which rings and retainers go where, and make sure the glass is the right way around - check it by looking at your PC monitor. If the monitor goes black when you rotate, that's the correct way with the lens being your eye.

If it's all in bits and you're struggling, someone with a bit of mechanical empathy should be able to sort it for you.
 
Thanks for replies. It came apart on camera as I was turning it, never droped etc, the only piece that I cannot figure is the the large round thin metal piece that just fell out.

That will be the retaining ring. It dosn't 'screw' together. Once you have the lens in (the correct way round as above) the 'large round thin metal piece' should fit in a little little groove to hold it it in.
It is, however, not unusual for the groove to degrade due to the continual movement (ajusting) of the lens. If this is so, your goosed i'm afraid!
 
Thanks for the help. Fixed it, was trying to screw it together but as Barry states above it clips together, had to use a pair pliers and gently squeeze the edge but it worked.
