I am doing a NVQ in photography and i have just got my next assignment and i am need some ideas from yourselfs to get me going.

This months tutorial that we work to is called "Controlling Light Characteristics" and they talk about predicting shadows, temperature of colour, coloured filters and other types of filters that control light (ie.polarising and Neutral density) and the use of gels.

My project is to employ and control lighting, natural or artificial in my own field of work, make visually attractive and commercially viable pictures of HANDS
These may be in monochrome or colour, but my statement of intent must justify my choice in terms of the eventual destination of the photographs.

My problem being my field of work in photography is LANDSCAPE so anyone got ideas what pictures i can take and what i could be taking them for?? :bang:

If anyone has a nail painting business in the portsmouth/southampton area and wouldn't mind me popping along to take some photos of your work this would be great.

If anyone else in this area has a job which they work with their hands and wouldn't mine me taking a few images of your hands at work please let me know.

Any ideas or advice is most welcome

hey not sure i can help but i instantly thought of a painters hand painting a landscape when i read this.

good luck with the nvq, i'd like to do one in photography one day.

Henna decorations from the Indian community perhaps?

Use the hands to show the profession, say a fishmonger holding a fish etc etc?

Do a search on flickr for hands and see what other people have done with that theme and use them as an inspiration to do better.

Try photographing different types of hands - rough workman's hands, child's hands, clean hands, messy hands (kid's and paint, sculptor's hands covered in clay etc)

Also don't just do hands - think of things associated with hands: shadows, gloves, handprints.

Best of luck

I shot this once for a weather theme:

This is going to be your best bet if your field of work is landscapes, Farmers, climbers, artists, togs.... lovers hodling hands in the contry side... Anything where you can shove a hand in but keep a landscape behind really
