Help wireless connection ????

my wife has been given a laptop to use from work I can see my wireless network and connect to it, but it will not show any websites, what have i not done.
:shrug:
 
you may have limited connectivity, check that you have an IP assigned or if which, it should be if your wireless network is secure, did you put the key in
 
thamks for the reply, not very techinical, not sure how to check IP assigned network is secure, just getting can not find sever on web page
 
right click your wireless icon (WLI), click status, then click support, you can see if you have a IP, subnet mask, and default gateway, if any of those dont have numbers, try repair conection by right clicking the WLI and click repair

Chances are the web browser has a proxy server set for use at work. You'll need to turn off the proxy server option and then it will probably work, but not at work until you re-enable it.

If you use IE then it's under the LAN options on the Connections tab of the settings window.

thanks hepburn, I have had look but still can not get it to work, will try again over the weekend if not she will have to ask in work to correct it

Well .. most connections are simple but if it wont show up straight away , you do have a prob . I would say its prob the adapter in the laptop. If you can get a cheap card fro pc woooly and go from there mate.
 
I agree with hepburn.

If it's letting you connect to your own home network, but not working on internet explorer, then try this ..

Open internet explorer. Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings.

Make sure auto detect settings is checked and that everything else, including proxy is UNCHECKED.

Close internet explorer.

Restart internet explorer and see what happens.

If that does not work, then try the same but UNCHECK auto detect settings.

But be careful before you change the settings, just write down the old settings so you can revert back when she brings the laptop to work.
 
I use an Orange Livebox for wireless and it has to be reset before a new user can connect for the first time...friends visiting etc. Are you using the same thing or a system with similar functionality?

I have an Orange Livebox too, Bob. I dont have to reset mine but have to put it into pairing mode before someone new can connect. you will need to check the instructions of your modem to look for a pairing mode or similar.
