I am working on a project for uni, a film shot on my 5D. For the opening scene i'm trying to film in a 1940s era house, mainly a living room. I've tried searching the web, and the best I can find is the 1940s house exhibition at the Imperial War Museum London. Trouble is it's £150 pounds for an hour of filming, which is out of my price range!

If need be i'll have to focus on close ups and film in any old room, but does anyone know of any other museums that have replica rooms that date back to that era? The closer the better really, i'm based in Northampton.

I have no idea how to contact them, but there is a subculture that like to live in the style of past decades. There was a programme on this a couple of years ago, the closest I can find is this article from the Fail.
