Hi,
basically my camera (1000d) is annoying me a bit lately...

1) custom white balance, when i try to set it off certain pictures it wont let me  i think it only happens where i have used flash but im pretty sure it has done it when i havent  so i really would like to know why its being silly all of a sudden.

2) taking pictures at night even with a tripod (admitedly a cheap tripod from argos) they are all slightly blurred so is this the camera making it blur or the fact the tripod is cheap and so when the mirror moves it moves the whole camera?

(if you think its tripod can you recommend me a good one sub£100 ideally)

3) my images dont seem as sharp as some of the pictures i see on here so is that the lens or just because other people are using much more expensive cameras

any help would be much appreciated.
Matt

Certain modes on your camera won't let you set certain settings. Eg. on Automatic mode- I don't think it will allow you to set a custom white balance. Check your manual for which modes you will need to use.

How are you taking the picture? Pressing the shutter release on the camera? This is probably moving the camera- causing the blur. Either use the timer-mode (takes the picture 10seconds after pressing shutter release) or get a shutter release cable.

sorry i totally missed some fairly important bits out of the first post woops.

as for modes 99% of the time use AV and its always worked before, just lately its been having these fits of not letting me set it.

and I was using the self timer (only on the 2second one though)

What lenses are you using and is it wide open?

Hi, for a tripod, try redsnapper, they are good quality and in your price range. You could also try using custom functions to lock your mirror up combined with a release cable if you have one to try and reduce camera shake. Good luck.

Check the manual. Maybe the camera won't let you set white balance with flash, since you're using flash, the camera sets the white balance for you? Sounds like user error TBH.

Tripod is no guarantee of sharp pictures; it just helps. Mirror slap can be a problem particularly around 1/30sec - 1/2sec. Lock the mirror up. Take the centre column down. Use timer.

Expensive cameras don't generally take sharper pictures, not that you can see easily. They allow you to do more things, more easily, faster, that kind of thing.

Check out your basic technique, and the camera manual, and try again ;)

Use raw mode so you can play around editing the picture more.
