Hi guys

Just a quick question regards to this lens ive just brought,
The lens is a NIKON F2 NIKKOR 35MM 1:2.8

Can anyone tell me more about the lens and what will not work on my d3000.

I know that the auto focus wont work but is there anything else that may not work.

Thanks
gareth

If it's pre AI, you shouldn't use it at all as it could damage your camera, no idea why but this seems to be official advice.

If it is AI or AIS, it'll mount but you'll not get any metering.

Do you know how id go about finding out which one it is

Thanks

It looks like a 35mm 2.8 AI to me (though please don't take that as gospel). That should mean it's safe to use but it definitely will not meter or auto focus.

Yes AI or depending upon the colour of min apetture maybe AIs. So safe to use, man focus and no metering. You might get more use from an 18-55mm kit lens and with less faff.

you be alright with that lens. Is a AI lens, 2 aperture ring and the prong gave it away.

man focus and is a cracking little lens. I still use 28mm f2.8 AI and 135mm f2.8 AI lens on my D300 and D7000.

The serial number of 577114 etched onto the front rim means that it is definitely an AI-s series lens. It was manufactured some time around 1985. As others have said, it will work on your camera as a fully-manual lens.
