HI all

I have a couple of shots that I going to put into the 2012 calender comp...only problem is I don't understand the bit about sizing :bang:

The rules say Landscape & A4 ???

1 image as jpeg is 240dpi ( whatever that means ) & currently 3458wide x 2572 pixels

the other is also 240 dpi 3872 wide x 2592 jpeg

I can't find any info on my 'puter programmes about changing them to landscape or allowing for A4 sizing ? I use PSE 8....very badly I may add !

Please help....thanks in advance

Landscape just means wider across the screen than vertical. portrait is the upright orientation for a picture. Doesn't mean the picture has to be of a landscape or persons portrait :)

A4 is just the aspect ratio - how wide compared to how high. Don't worry about it for now.

ignore the dpi thing and just look at the pixel size. 3000 odd is too big to post on the forum so you need to resize it. Here is a tutorial on resizing using free software. You can either download the same software or just read through what's involved and do the same thing with what you have already.

hi line when you open the photo in pse8 use the crop tool and in the top it will give you the place to put the dimensions you wont, for a4 you need 2475x3510 and in one bbox put 2475px and in the opther 3510px and a little over to the right there should be a box for the dpim put in that box 300dpi.
then crop you image,
if unsure im sure you could email them to someone else to do, but just remember a4 is not a proper photo ratio so you will lose abit of the photo.

just by the arrow aspect ratio.
and to change the crop from portrait to lanscape click on the arrows between the dimensions you want.

Pixels is how big the image is on the computer

Dpi is how big it will print out.

A 1000 pixel wide image printed at 10dpi will be 100 inches wide

A 1000 pixel wide image printed at 100dpi will be 10 inches wide

A 1000 pixel wide image printed at 1000dpi will be 1inch wide

Thanks for all the help peoples..... still can't suss it though:'( gonna stick my entries in & see what happens  Have figured out that both my images are wider than they are taller so p'raps I'll be ok

scotthehat...really appreciate the screen dump you showed me...saw it at work & thought...yaaaay , someone realises how much of a numpty I can be ... However , my screen doesn't look the same as the one you've shown me for some reason...& when I put the measurements in I get a message saying....too big for screen ? & then I can't figure out how to crop it ....then when it does go smaller I loose at least 3/4's of the image ?
So , much appreciate your guidance but seems theres no hope for me :bang:

Really need to go on a training course :)

Another way to do it with less control over image is to got to IMAGE, -> RESIZE, IMAGE and type in the size of an A4 in cms ie 21.0 cm by 29.8cm. Or the other way around depending on your orientation. Just make sure when you go to print that it is set as ACTUAL size.
