Help with RAW (NEF) images in PS CS2

It's the first time ive used RAW in PS. I opened the image in CS2 as a normal JPEG but instead of it just being in normal PS a new window pops up with some tools i usualy use with JPEGS but in a different layout blah blah.

Can someone tell me if im just to use the new tools or can i put it into..yeah, i hoe someone knows what im gibbering on about :lol:
 
You need to convert the RAW files before you can work on them in Photoshop, have a look at the Adobe site and download Adobe Camera Raw.

I prefer using Lightroom to process my RAW files - you can download a trial version from the Adobe site and have a play with that.
 
CS2 opened my Nikon D2H NEF files just with the plugins that came with the software. As Flash In The Pan says, I did have to upgrade the Adobe Camera Raw plugin once I got my D3.

It's available from Adobe.com, but get the right version for your copy of Photoshop. Later (CS3) versions won't work.
