Help With Tripod!

Wondering if anyone can help with an issue im currently having with my tripod.

Currently have a Giottos MTL 9351B tripod, however when using recently have noticed that the thread that the ball head screws into has come loose. I have taken it apart to see if any way of tightening it back up but can't see any way of getting to it.

This is the first tripod I owned so don't really have much experience with fixing them :(

Picture below shows the thread I mean. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure that this is no a 1/4 to 3/8 adater screw. Can you turn the thread at all, or does it just wiggle back and forth?
 
You should just be able to unscrew the black part (surrounding the thread), which you can remove to expose the whole thread, then tighten the thread up and replace the black part...if that makes sense?
 
Assuming the stud is loose enough to remove by hand, you could remove it, apply some thread lock to the threads and replace it and allow to cure. I have done this with my Gitzo for the same reason.

There's three little grub screws facing upwards. You may have to take these out first and then unscrew the black top part. I'll try send some pictures now.
 
Try taking out these three grub screws (not sure if you know but these are to lock your tripod head in place), and any others that are underneath.

Then you may be able to rotate this black part to unscrew and enable access to the 3/8 thread in the middle. Tighten this up with thread lock as @gad-westy says. Then re-assemble.

Ive had this same tripod in the past, and I can confirm that you do not need to undo the 3 grub screws before rotating/unscrewing the black part (y)

Thanks. I was only guessing from a mechanical point of view. :D
