i recently bought a second hand 5d mk1 as a back up to my 7dmkii,when using my 7 I change everything ISO,Aperture by looking at the back screen but can I do that on the old 5d? as I'm changing everything by looking at the small display on the top of the camera and with my eye sight I find very difficult,many thanks.Roy.
 
I may be wrong (been a while since I played with one), but I don't think that the original 5D had that option, think that came in later cameras.

I have a 5Dc and as far as I can find out no option to do this, no option on my 40D either, all got to be done on the top screen.

You can see all the settings in the viewfinder, and they should be nice and sharp if your dioptre adjustment is done properly.

And you really should be aiming to be able to change things without moving the camera from your eye.
