Nature is raw at times. I saw a Grey Heron eating a young rabbit many years ago, the rabbit was down, alive, in 3 gulps.

Instead, it could have been an otter that cleaned you out, as reported in August 2023
"An otter has taken and eaten over £100,000 of koi fish from a hotel. The otter took around 30 koi from the Asian Sensory Garden pond and a further 20 from the hotel's other pond. "
