hi i'm new to photography and new to this site.

I have hundreds of questions but i one that is buggin me. I have a panasonic fz-38 superzoom camera. the manufacture says that i really should use there own batteries . There are many sites that are selling non manufacture batteries. So i would like to know if it's ok to use a non maufacture battery as i would like a battery thats lasts longer, my battery is a panasonic li.ion cgr-s006e, 7.2v, 695mAh, (min.)5.0wh. Right i understand the li.ion 7.2v and that's all so could help me with rest. Does the 695mAh part mean that the battery lasts longer so example the higher the mAh goes the longer it's lasts? Thanks in advance:)

Yes. mAh stands for milli-Ampere hours (Ampere being a measure of electrical current, and 1mA, or 1 milli-Amp being 0.001A).

A 1mAh battery would supply 1mA for 1 hour, so a 695mAh battery could supply 1mA for 695 hours, or 695mA for 1 hour. Therefore the larger the mAh figure the longer the battery will last for a given consumption of current.

hth.

And yes, it would be alright to use a 3rd party battery, BUT, if anything goes wrong with the item, warranty may be affected!!

How often do 3rd party batteries cause a problem? ;) As long as you put the originals back in.

The main reason it says use only official batteries is because the profit margins for the branded manufacturers is so high.

agree with gold.
I use an unbranded battery in my G10 and can't tell the difference between that and the original. Just bought a 500D and found a huge array of compatible batteries, different capacities and prices too. If you are buying it's worth a look on the US ebay site where some are cheaper than the UK site.

Yep! Quite agree! BUT, a mate of mine who is SCRUPIOUSLY honest, told the shop that he had used a non-make power supply/charger on his phone and they refused to honor the guarantee!
There are some honest people out there!!
