High Contrast B&W Testing

Hi all,

I shot these high contrast b&w shots today.

It was the first time that i'd turned on my camera's b&w setting. I was quite impressed by it.

Anyway what i'd like to know is, which of these do you prefer & why?

OK, I prefer the second, but would like it more if it were cropped tighter, loosing the chest, and maybe even some of the top of the head. Why - the eyes hold the picture, but with the chest, the eyes get lost a little. Also, for me, I would make it just slightly darker.
The first one just has no focal point to my eyes, and the shadow on his arm makes it look very thin..

number 2 for me as well, with my focus being drawn more to the face and eyes unlike the first.

The arm in number one distracts me somewhat...
