I went up to High Marnham Powerstation near Newark Nottinghamshire the other day. The power station is abandoned and the offices have been demoished. They have left the cooling towers though.
The weather was cold but the sky was clear and later on produced some nice photographs.
I produced six images all HDR combining three images together.
I used my new 24-70 L and im really impressed with the outcome.

Thanks for looking
C&C welcome

some nice compositions but ruined by the OTT HDR

2 and 5 are particularly nice - i'd be tempted to go B&W on number 5 and add some grain. Might work, might not!

Thanks for the feed back
images are from my flickr site so im not sure howe to resize unless i upload in a differet size.

I kind of liked number 5 in colour as i represented the image to what i saw through my eye. But i will convert into B&W in CS3 to see what it looks like.

- In regards to how close, I crossed a stream and got up the main gate. There was a lot of patched holes in the gateing from where people had been throughbut you could get through the main gate and there looks like like a bridge over to the towers but it got a bit dark. I might go back in summer when the lighting is better.

Nice set of images. I do have a couple of comments. The main thing is the saturation seems too high to me, particularly in #2 and #6 where the sky looks un-natural.

The other comment is in #1 and #3 the sky is blown out in parts, was the photos from 1 RAW or 3 files? The right hand of the sky in #3 looks very dramatic, it's a shame about the left hand side of it being blown out.

I've heard that these cooling towers are due to be demolished at some point 'soon'. Not sure when but you can guarantee that it will be the 'week before you decide to go and see them again'. Probably best to get back as soon as you can just in case. You can get inside the towers and you may meet some of the 'urban explorers' from one or two of the UE forums. They are decent guys, not the chavs that trash the place and leave it a dump.

1st, 4th, & 5th for me.
1st is my pick, I think the processing suits it, but the others are a little heavily done for my taste.

Have edited your images to links for now, feel free to put back resized pics if you wish. :)

Great pictures there, especially the ones with the power lines in the foreground - they put the towers in context, in a way.

There was more at High Marnham until fairly recently. In October 2006 the boiler house was demolished, followed a few months later by the turbine hall and control rooms. The chimney had gone prior to this. I'm not sure on the date for the cooling towers' demolition, but I expect it'll be fairly soon.

Other cooling towers that aren't too difficult to get close to a Richborough in Kent, Willington in Derbyshire and Thorpe Marsh near Doncaster.

Ive resized this image and converted to B&W to see what this looked like and from michealplaces comment.

I prefer this in colour due to the sunlight popping through the arch onto the grass as you cant see it much in B&W, but its good trying some images in B&W as sometimes it can give the photograph a bit more character.
