Hi, these look an awful mix of too noisy, too saturated and not good enough skill. Am a bit surprised the D7200 is so noisy at ISO4000+, or is this just being in a poorly lit hall with a 70-300 5.6 lens? Also, I've calibrated my minitor with a Spider pro but my pics come off the camera extremely red.

Comments welcome...

I've been asked to take photos next season (club needs it and doesn't have any cash to pay someone else with decent skill/kit...), so any advice appreciated. Am looking at a used 85mm 1.8G lens to help.

They are a little red in the faces but not much.. I ahve seen a lot worse... are you setting the white balance off the ice... its a good idea to do that..

Pics arnt too bad

#1
too much white space

#2
get one with keepers face in.. with x3 20 minute slots its doable

#4
i know what your doing but it doesnt quite make it...

others not too bad ...BUT for a f5.6 lens pretty good.. you wouldnt last 5 minutes in my local rink with f5.6 .. i struggle at f2.8 and need iso 6400 ..most rinks are pretty dark

shame its all been suspended now.. maybe you can photo some practice evening if they ahve any... if like round here then go on to about 11pm :)

Thanks Kipax, was a real struggle and quite stressful!
Do you think a 85mm 1.8 would work?

Depends where your shooting from...through the plexi would be OK but limiting.. However I HAte putting a thick dirty piece of plexi between a good lens and a subject.. looking at your other pics your shooting over the plexi as I do... my ideal lens for that is 300 but 70-200 is good enough.. 85 would be too short IMHO
