Hi, looking for an alternative to the Hokki Ground Hide, cannot really justify the price they cost so anyone care to share what they may use. Do have a camo gillies set but need something more suitable for the rainy days. Thanks, Russ

How portable does it need to be russ? Trond Westby has a video out there somewhere of a low hide made of a form of foam sheet. I've pondered something similar for a while now

Think of a wheelbarrow long flat floor couple of ply hoops either end...... foam bent over hoops ...........foam painted in camo. If it was for "your wood" you could move it and also leave it set. Sort of semi permanent with an ability to move :D

A different tool to a very portable net type of hide, it might be too left field for what you want?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Really needs to be portable like the Hokki as we have a couple more places that we (my son and me) have got permission to lay out road kill etc to photograph BOP but not in woods (open type fields). sure there will something out there that will meet what we want also needs to be water proof. Will have a look for that Trond Westby video see what he has done. Thanks, Russ.

Out of curiosity, have you used one before? I found them to be really uncomfortable after only a short time in it.

Hi, No never used one only watched them being used on YouTube, actually trying now to justify the price of the Hokki hide as have a camo ghillie suite that has never been worn yet so maybe see how that goes first. On a side subject here in Cumbria trying to find any road kill is becoming a challenge don't no if that's down to lock down and not so many cars on the roads or a drop in the animal world?

I knew I'd seen this previously. If you are handy with a needle .....or know someone who is. How about this

Update Just come across someone called Army Andy on fb. He seems to specialise in making adapting fishing hides. Don't know if he could help

Try pet shops or reptile shops, they will usually stock frozen rats and sometimes rabbits.

Ghillie suits are IMO a better option, you will be mobile if you need to be, you just look a right plonker in one though :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:...

There's nowt wrong with my dress sense Nigel .....................bit harsh mate

Russ have a look here They are lovely people, actually very local to me,ahh bless 'em I've only used them once and they still sent us a Chimbo card , I love that(y) They were recommended to me by another member here

Re comfort................... Nigel was it your neck that suffered ? I've no experience of this type of low hide, but those times when I spend an hour on the deck with a hare or something always leaves my neck screaming .

Russ before spending i'd heed Nigel's earlier words on comfort . A low POV is wonderful but you need to know you can physically cope with being low for hours with this type of hide. if you can't you need to rethink,..........................maybe go for something like the Simon King hide which gives the chance to shoot low but you can still sit up in and get a degree more comfy while waiting for hours .

My neck and then my lower back were in bits within an hour of using one ( now sold on) .Have a look at a bag hide, https://wildlifewatchingsupplies.co.uk/collections/photo-hides-hide-accessories-1 very mobile and you can get as low as you need, downside is though......you look a plonker. The SK hide as mentioned by Stuart is a good hide, but they offer nothing in the way of mobility and you may find your subject is wary of it, ideally if you are going to use a pop-up or static hide you would need to put it up for a few days at least to get the best out of it. But be aware, I put one up on private land that I have access to, it was there for a month or so before some tw@ decided to steal it one night.

Thanks on neck issues Nige.... there's a lot of Low images made. but I never hear folks mention this. So much so I, wondered if it was just me. I'm pretty fit for an old git ,day job is a constant work out ,but my neck and low for a length of time.......... OMG

.That's basically why I asked and doubled up,on your post , If one is uncomfortable one fidgets (beyond being miserable) that's the last thing one wants to get close to something skittish with astounding eyes. None of us wants is to buy expensive kit that we can't work with. Only Russ will know what's best for him,but we don't always realize all the pitfalls of a product until using

Why not just use a normal hide but one with low level windows included ? At least then you have best of both worlds and if your camera has a tilting screen you could still sit and just look down at the screen ?

Thanks for all the replies, after reading the pitfalls on using one of these I have decided at my age I will stick with the ghillie suit and the nighthawk hide I have for the mobility and at my age the getting more backache.
