I am hoping you can solve this problem so I know what to buy.

I have a SB600 and V2s. I really feel when mounting the flash on a tripod the Cactus V2s flash reciever makes the flash sit too high and feel unstable.

I was supplied a PC cord in the packaging that fits into the reciever if I were to buy a hotshoe to pc adapter will this enable me to mount the flash more securely and have the reciever just plugged in on this mount.

I think this is what I need

Your link is dead, but this is what I use to add a pc connector to my SB-600s

As you've got a D50 it might be worth getting an off-camera cord (Nikon model SC-28) as well as with a wee mod you can get the SB-600 to sync to (iirc) 1/4000 instead of the normal 1/500 ;)

so long as your flash has a pc port then yes.
unlike all my sketchy old flashes
