How do you use Lightroom

Bridge is a full blown package and I think best for the job It works on your files you can preview them in many ways also You can output Web pages make Contact sheet the list goes on
Much easier to sort and find photos you want, you can sort on Lens, Camera even Fstop the list just goes on and on

LR does all of this and more and to me - much faster and easier. Check the metadata filters and smart collections in LR. Bridge is just an afterthought evolved from Photoshop file opening dialog.

LR makes a file for of the images in a different place then the photo them self to me it is not as simple to use or sort BUT this is just my view.

This file you are referring to is an image database (catalog) - bridge actually does similar thing behind the scenes - it creates a cache files. The thing is however, if they are not there - it is very slow since Bridge needs to scan your images to extract the metadata to allow that filtering you are referring to. In LR this step is made explicit to the user and each image needs to be imported into catalog before LR can work with it - importing is fast though similar to the speed with which Bridge rebuilds its cache so I can hardly see it as a drawback.

cheers i did use the export method but anted to make sure there wasnt a quikcker method

The reason it is slow sometimes is exactly because of the keeping original image untouched approach. LR applies all your edits to the original photo and exports it all as a new file. The more complex editing (lots of local corrections) - the longer the export. There are some tools out there that allow you to extract LR previews (what you see when you edit the photo) to get lower quality image instantly but I prefer to wait for export to be done properly. The beauty of this approach is that export allows you to pick output format and retain highest possible quality of the image all the way thoughout the process. It also allows you to redirect your export elsewhere (like an online gallery or photo sharing site) with the bunch of plugins. That latter ability is something that I find invaluable - uploading a bunch of photos to the site controlled by export template with one click... - try to do that in a Bridge or anywhere else...

I just wish there was a SAVE button. I spent ages figuring out how to save an image that i had "fixed" but found I had to export it. Will I have to pay customs duty to get it back? :suspect:

To all intents and purposes the edited images are saved. The final image will stay in Lightroom unless you choose to delete it. You can also step back edit all the way back to the original import if you choose and all are effectively "saved". Also Lightroom will back up your catalogue on a daily/weekly/monthly basis whichever you choose so each and every image in all its stages are backed-up i.e. "saved".
