Im about to sell my 17-40L and Ive stupidly lost the lens hood for it.

To be honest I never used it really which is probably why I lost it.

Is this detrimental to me selling it? Ive heard its not so much of an issue on a wide angle like this...

Should I take £10-15 off the selling price maybe?

If its the EW83E lens hood, you can get these for about a fiver on Ebay, HERES one.
I would say if you are advertising it complete you would need to include the hood as it came with one originally.
As to if you need it? Its to cut down flare but I hardly ever use them and nobody has challenged me yet!

thanks, yea I thought that was the case.

Wont advertise as complete I guess.

On a crop body the standard hood is more like a chocolate teapot, the hood from the 24-105 works much better.

If nothing else, a lens hood is a protector to the lens front glass. Especially if you don't believe in UV filters.

The tulip shape and size of the 17-40L lens hood is designed to be effective on a full frame camera. On a crop sensor body, it's pretty well useless.

and if you're using filters which I suspect happens a lot of the time on the 17-40 - the lens hood is not much use anyway :)
