Proberly been asked before and proberly will be asked again but how much is the FPS effected by shooting in RAW. With shooting in motorsport if someone gets it wrong it is good to be able to capture a 'sequence'.

Will shooting in RAW affect this?

Thanks
Matt

Normally doesn't affect FPS, just how many frames you can burst and how long it takes the b****r to empty. 400D can shoot 27 JPEG or 10 RAW in a burst (according to DP Review)

Fantastic! That should be enough to capture a crash :D

If you're used to a greater buffer depth(using JPEG), I would advise a little practice using RAW before you use it in anger, so that you don't find yourself bumping up against the buffer limit. One of the cameras I've got will do 30 and the other will do 10. I found myself hitting the buffer limit using the camera that will do 10 in a burst recently and missed a couple of shots. I could have been a little less liberal with the shutter button and taken only those shots that really needed taking.

Don't know about the 400D but in the 40D there is a wee display in the viewfinder that tells you how many shots you'll get when you take a burst.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

subseasniper, mine does not have that :(

It should do, it'll be the number below the meter on the right :) I always wondered what it was...then I noticed it went down when I used burst mode :D

WooWee, I always wondered what that number was for on my 5D, now I know. Not that i'll ever need it though!

Usually the only real slower down FPS is switching from 12 to 14 bit (if your camera has that option) or sometimes a REALLY slow card, and that only after the buffer gets full. Wayne

9 is the maximum it displays even if there is capacity for more....it's a single digit field.
