Just had a panoramic family shot framed for my mothers 60th. It's come out very nice but I was looking at it wondering how much would I pay to have it done.

I won't go through how much it cost as I think that would skew the process but I want to know how much would you pay for this.

The frame is made of real wood painted and in total is 28 inches along the width

I'd be interested in knowing what you personally would pay for someone to take this photo, print it and frame it. Not what you think it is worth, but what you would pay for it. Sometimes what something is worth and what someone is willing to pay are two different things

cheers

Very nice shot and framed, no idea on price but would say its priceless to your Mum.

Yeah that's the hard part, since I'm in the family it's hard to put a price, what would you pay for a shot like that of you and your family at that size?

The frame could be £100 on its own

I wouldn't pay anything for someone to take it and I presume you didn't either.;)
Unless the photographer was a mug they wouldn't get out of bed for a one image job, or if they did they'd want to bill for at least half a day.

Print could be anything from £10 - £50 but I'd take a guess at around £20 - £30 for a half decent job.

Frame might be a custom job since it's a strange shape, long and low, so maybe be £120 in the frame and mounting? Then again, if I was doing it I'd look at the likes of those Ikea frames that take 3 or 5 smaller prints in a row and cut my own mounts so could be £30.

So I'd say, me doing it, £60, pro doing it, multiply the material costs by 3 and add the half day rate so could end up around £500.

Frame possibly £100+ cost, picture £20-£30 cost and then what ever the photographer wanted ontop, so looking at 400 total?

Do my own :D

Lol... Where do you get framing supplies, surely with that size frame, glass, mount and the print wouldnt leave much in you pocket if you sold it for £100...

But this is you saying what a pro would charge, I'm asking what would you be prepared to pay personally if it was a photo of you and your family

Would you be personally willing to pay £400 for it though?

Yes, if that's how much the photographer charged. I would have checked the photographers prices before I book him/her.

If I paid £200 for it I would know I got a steal as the cost of materials wouldn't leave to much in the way of profit

The whites in the image are blown the white wall at the back is distracting- so I wouldnt have paid anything- I would have done it myself and bought a frame :D

At the moment I'm skint so I'd look to spend less on an unframed version.

Under normal circumstances (if I was after a family portrait) I guess I'd be prepared to pay around £150 for something along those lines. I can accept that some would happily pay more though.

I would have expected to pay around £70 to 100 to get it framed if i took the pic in.

I don't have any of my price lists to hand, so am guestimating a bit. But in terms of materials, it would probably cost me somewhere in the region of £50-60. In whicj case I would likely charge round £150.

I ticked the <£50 box but I was being thick and thinking frame only and not the whole process, sorry.

I based my answer on paying £70 to have my sons artwork framed in a wooden painted frame which was double mounted and quite large in size - I'd guess at around 75cm x 55cm or so

Ok I guess I need to be more specific :bonk:

I mean how much would you pay for an image like this with all your family at this size.

I imagine the amateurs will say 'about £100' and the professionals (who understand the many and varied costs of doing business, not to mention adding to that the cost of framing and their time) indicating (rightly) that it will have to be priced at over £300.

This is where I am with it. It cost me £60 so I was thinking if I chafed it would be £150. I personally wouldn't pay Norseman about £150 for this is I didn't take it myself and that's based on 5 pieces of photographic art I have bought framed over the years.

Joe....I think you need to Ask the question if the purchasers were not photographers.......You may get a different set of replies then.... ie. £150 for the framed print but I could easily do it for much less myself..

Ok but i am assuming that you are in fact in the shot yourself so meaning you can't do it yourself ....

although I did in fact do a 10 second timed run, but I was lucky that all the children looked at the right moment. I doubt if I did it again i would be as successful.

Assume you need to be in the shot and need someone to actually take it for you and you pay as a customer

Took a similar shot for an elderly aunt's 80th birthday and supplied prints to anyone in the pic for cost. Sod's law, someone was blinking in one shot - luckily I had taken a burst of 2 so could just C&P the face. Couldn't shout at the person too much - it was me!

Photo came in handy after Mum's stroke too - did an A3 print and as part of her therapy she had to try to put names to the faces.

hi joe did you just take a wide shot and crop in like that, you did well mate.
as said if you went to a pro to have it done it would be around the £400/500 mark.

actually i did it in two parts and merged them together so as to get the most detail without cropping

i can see why some pro's would charge that but I couldn't personally at this point in my life. The whole think cost me £60 in funds and about 2 hours max in time. Charging £400 would mean that I valued myself at £170 an hour. Which I don't.

But others are worth more than £170 an hour - i guess it all depends on your skill level

thats it, also depend also on what part of the country your from i would say.
well you did a good job mate, you should put up how you did it in the p&p section.

You'd be surprised at just how cheap it is to make frames! I used to work for one of the uk's largest framing companies until 2 new bosses screwed it over taking £1000's out for fake reasons :(
