hi.....have a Hoya Pro-1 Digital MC C-PL

with a clean cloth there is still a smear film on the filter
visible as a "sheen" when the lens is tilted under a desk lamp

used ALLSOP Cleaning Solution " Liquid Nettoyant" which is isopropanol [?] based i think

better - but still a haze on the surface ............how to clean please...?

did a "Google" - seems a typical prob on multi-coated surfaces ...:shrug:

breathed till blue in the face....:lol:

this is more an oily film so pure moisture isn't removing it all

Mine were the same after using cleaner. They will stand quite a hard rub and even my breath!!

Good hard breath and a good hard rub in a circular motion:D

Edit. What cloth are you using?
 
I find kitchen towel the best for clearing....dont use bog roll it contains verry small wood particles

Do you have to rub it up and down for a linear filter :D :D :D
 
never never never never never never use any kind of tissue to clean any kind of lens. Glasses, camera, anything.

Tissues contains tiny particles of quartz. Therefore, etc etc, it's abrasive. You may not see it, but you're scratching lenses by using tissue or kitchen towel.

I should know. I did a degree in Geology, and looked at the uses of it in modern day life. If any of you use makeup, you're basically just slapping clay on your face. Hair wax? Clay. Tissues? Quartz.

Anyway, with regards to the OP, I have no answer. Just don't use a tissue, and maybe not even your hankie.

p.s. you use an awful lot of ... those ... full stops ... in your ... posts ;)
 
Free Micro Fiber Cloths...Just go into your friendly SpecSavers and ask for a cloth, tell them you have lost your's, if you are very lucky you will give you fist full, of cloths that is!:lol:

ok - how about the standard lens cloth - "here"

presumably "fit for purpose" ?

yeah, any kind of lens cloth is fine. Like the guy above said, even spectacle ones are fine. They're designed to be non-abrasive. Whereas tissues are designed to be abrasive, no matter how many times the manufacturers call them 'soft' they are, by design, abrasive
 
I use lens cleaning solution on my filters with a lens cloth, works fine every time. Its important to let it dry once you've rubbed even when you can still see a film of cleaner - this will just evaporate off. If you keep rubbing it and try and dry it with a cloth you'll smear it.

I do find my Hoya Pro 1 digital attracts a lot more crud on the front than my Jessops filters though??
 
The whole point of a filter is that you needn't be too precious about it.
Breathe on it and wipe with a lint-free microfibre cloth (I used to use chamois, but these things are brilliant).
Or the corner of a t-shirt - or anything you have handy...
