I did a very silly thing today - sensor cleaning advice?

Once you've read this, please feel free to roll about on the floor ******ing yourself laughing at just how dozy people can actually be. I wont be offended, cause I did much the same thing myself, once I had got over my initial annoyance :lol:

Yesterday, whilst at Kenilworth, I noticed I had a few dust bunnies (including one that looked like a dog hair!). This afternoon whilst the wife was busy doing dinner, I thought i'd give the sensor a quick going over with the sensorclear loupe and pen. Sorted, yes?

Well no...not exactly. What I failed to realise at the time (even though it smelt lovely) was the fact that the wife had a few lamb steaks under the grill, and there was a faint little pall of smoke drifting into the lounge where I was cleaning my sensor.

So..the net result is that I now have a sensor that is free from the original dust bunnies, but has acquired a good few new ones along with a really nice lamb flavoured greasy film. GENIUS!

I'm presuming ill need something wet to remove it (eclipse fluid?) but i've read somewhere on here that you have to use a particular type on a 5D, but im buggered if I can find where I read it now.

Any advice?

And stop laughing at the back :p
 
Found this its not from tp thou - 5D sensor cleaning is it similar to anything that you can remember :shrug:

Sorry to hear about your dilemma, and others think it funny, you could send it off to Canon to get a proper clean :thumbs: if its new they do it cheap or free within 12months :thumbs:

Ahhhhh yeah thats the bunny. E2 is the answer I was looking for.



Oh and email me some of that mint sauce. We ran out :bang:

The irony is the image quality is absolutely fine..aside from a couple of small blobs that just seem to move around the sensor every time I touch it with the brush. Im just not that keen on knowing that its there.

Thanks Chris. Just found that site after googling E2 and came to the same conclusion :thumbs:

Ill be ordering one of those kits later then.

Oh and to top it all...I did have some stuff I wanted to shoot tonight, but im not keen on using the 5D and the charger has gone missing for the wifes 500D. She now has 4 flat batteries...and hasnt seen the charger for months, but its ME thats lost it, apparently! :bang::bang::bang:
 
The thinking has changed since the articles above were written, mainly due to the thinking that pure eclipse (not E2) was not good for the tin oxide on the filter. E2 was a watered down version of Eclipse.

The current thinking is that you should use Eclipse now, I do not think they make the E2 version anymore, there is a PDF file on their website regarding it. It is also better IMO as it dries much quicker. I use it on all my Canon cameras with no problem.

It may take a few goes if there is much of a greasy film, just keep at it till it goes and remember, one drop on the swab, two at the most and count to 10 before applying it to the sensor.... simples!

Thanks everyone. Hopefully ive a) found everything I need, b) learnt a valuable lesson, and c) given everyone a good giggle.

It does appear that Eclipse is now the stuff to use, rather than E2 (although oddly Calumet still list E2 on their site, but nobody else appears to).
 
Yup my new bottle with the kit I got at focus says nowt about E2 it's just called Eclipse

Will you also need a new brush, as this one's been exposed to the same smoke, and rubbed on the greasy sensor?
