I finally have a DSLR!!!!

I have (after many years) finally got my very own DSLR. I borrowed a friends yesterday to have a play with and after my many hour getting sunburnt whilst snapping away my OH took me to Jessops to have look at the cameras.
It was a toss up between a Nikon D3100 or a Canon 500D ...after swapping them over a few times I settled for the Nikon, its a smaller camera and was alot more comfortable in my hands.
Ill be posting pictures very soon!!
Anyone else with a Nikon D3100 with any tips/hints etc feel free to let me know!

Congratulations! I think you made an excellent choice. I use a 40D but I want a D3100 myself. I don't know what the 500D is like for learning from scratch, but the D3100 has the tutorials built in. If you follow the guide and notice what settings each choice gives you, pretty soon you'll get a good feel for what settings to use in the 'creative' PASM modes.

There's an excellent book on the D3100 - "Nikon D3100 Digital Field Guide" by J Dennis Thomas. Well worth the modest price.
